Fractional Laser (Frax)

Fractional Laser (Frax)
Derma Solution offers non-ablative fractional skin resurfacing laser (Frax 1550) to address a wide range of skin resurfacing or scarring concerns. Frax 1550 is a fractional non-ablative laser that has very few side effects and less downtime than ablative lasers. The Frax 1550 is specific for addressing:
- Non-ablative skin resurfacing (including but not limited to treatment of skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles)
- Treatment of pores
- Treatment of pink or purple striae (stretch marks)
- Treatment of acne scars – ice-pick scars, rolling scars, boxcar scars, atrophic or hypertrophic.
- Treatment of surgical or trauma scars
- Treatment of improving and repairing sun damage
- Treatment of minimising age spots
- Fine lines and wrinkles – reduces sagging and thin skin
- Actinic keratosis (ak) – treats sun damage that can develop into skin cancer.
Overview of Frax 1550
- Technology: The Frax 1550 laser uses a 1550 nm wavelength to deliver precise, controlled micro-beams of laser energy into the skin. This wavelength is particularly effective for reaching the deeper layers of the skin without damaging the surface.
- Type: Non-ablative fractional laser, meaning it does not remove the top layer of skin but instead creates microscopic zones of thermal injury in the deeper layers.
Is My Skin Suitable?
Skin types 1-5 can be treated with the Frax 1550
How does it work?
Frax 1550 is a non-ablative fractional or fractionated laser, which means it delivers a large number of very small spots per square centimetre of skin treated. These spots go through the stratum corneum and epidermis and penetrate into the dermis. It is a non-ablative laser (meaning it does not wound and remove thin layers from the skin surface). The 1550 wavelength causes heating in the dermis, and the area of heating spreads down, below each spot, and outwards from each spot. The heated area is known as an MTZ (Micro Thermal Zone). Heating the dermis in a controlled way causes the formation of new collagen (collagen neogenesis). While treatments only last a few minutes, the replacement of collagen in the treated area is a gradual process, and continual improvements can be seen for a period of 3-6 months, post treatment.
All fine lines and wrinkles can be reduced, but those caused by the sun, especially those around the eyes and lips respond the best. It is never too late or too early to treat wrinkles once they are formed, after all prevention is better than cure. This treatment can be done in conjunction with Botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, PDO threads or PRP sessions.
Acne scars and facial scars from surgery or trauma may be reduced but very deep scars cannot be completely removed. Many benign skin growths and scaly patches on the skin’s surface are removed and new collagen is stimulated.
- Fractional Delivery:
- The laser creates thousands of microscopic columns of thermal injury in the skin, known as microthermal zones (MTZs). This fractional approach means that only a fraction of the skin is treated in each session, leaving surrounding tissue intact.
- Stimulation of Collagen:
- The controlled thermal damage stimulates the body’s natural healing process, promoting the production of new collagen and elastin. This leads to firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin over time.
- Minimal Surface Damage:
- Since it’s non-ablative, Frax 1550 does not remove the outer layer of skin, which minimizes downtime and reduces the risk of complications such as infections and prolonged redness.

- Long-Term Results: Improvement in skin texture and tone can be observed within a few weeks, with continued improvement over several months as new collagen forms.
- Downtime: Minimal downtime compared to ablative lasers. Most patients can return to normal activities within a day or two, although it’s advised to avoid intense exercise and direct sun exposure for a short period.
How many sessions do I need
Clients are advised to have up to 2 – 4 sessions to achieve desirable results.
However multiple sessions can be done to maintain results and to continually boost collagen production.
Suitability and Risks
- Suitability: Suitable for individuals looking to improve skin texture, tone, and overall appearance without significant downtime. However, a consultation with a professional is necessary to ensure it’s the right treatment for your specific skin type and concerns.
- Risks: As with any laser treatment, potential risks include temporary redness, swelling, and, in rare cases, hyperpigmentation or infection. Following pre- and post-treatment care instructions can minimize these risks.
Frax 1550 is an advanced, effective option for non-ablative skin resurfacing and rejuvenation, offering significant improvements with minimal disruption to daily life.

Fractional Laser (Frax)
Frequently Asked Questions
The handle with the wavelengths 1550
FRAX 1550 is suitable for skin structure such as fine lines, scars, coarse skin, stretch marks and general collagen stimulation. This revolutionary fractional technology (FRAX) produces thousands of small but deep heat columns in the skin. Since the laser is fractional, the skin will be heated in spots, which is a big advantage, as the downtime is less than if the whole skin were treated.
The heat columns start a process in the skin, where the skin will begin a regeneration process by forming growth and moisture factors as well as new collagen and elastin fibres.
The growth of collagen and elastin will improve fine lines, scars and stretch marks. Stimulation of newly formed moisture factors, such as hyaluronic acid, means that the skin will appear more hydrated and with a better glow.
The treatment is suitable for the face, neck and hands, but also elsewhere on the body. We recommend a treatment course of 3-5 treatments for an optimal improvement of the skin. A minimum of 6 weeks must pass between each treatment, so that the skin can regenerate between treatments.
If you are going to have surgery, we recommend a treatment with FRAX 1550 in the area 4 weeks before the operation and 1-2 treatments of the scar after the stitches have been removed. In this way, you achieve very fine and almost completely invisible scars.
The treatment is tailored to your needs.
When you arrive at the clinic, we will start by cleansing the skin and applying a numbing cream that is 5 times stronger than Elma cream, which can be bought over the counter at the Pharmacy. The anesthetic cream must sit for approx. 1 hour before treatment.
At the clinic you will have the option of being provided over the counter pain relief such as Panodil and Ipren to reduce further discomfort during the treatment.
The practitioner assesses which of the above laser handles will give you the best result. The selected FRAX handle will then be moved over the skin approx. 4 times.
Each pass will produce thousands of heating zones in the skin.
The treatment feels prickly in the skin and may be associated with slight discomfort, but it will be tolerable.
Right after the treatment, the skin will feel warm and sunburned, which will subside within 24 hours. The skin will be moderately swollen the first day. Slight swelling can be seen for up to 2-4 days after the treatment.
Consultation.
Before you can have a treatment with fractional laser, you must have a prior consultation with the clinic’s specially trained cosmetic nurse.
Here you will be asked about the concerns you have and what you want with the treatment. In dialogue with the therapist, we will find the optimal solution for you.
A good tip is also to write down any questions you have before you come to the consultation.
The consultation is non-binding and free of charge.

You will usually start to see results from your first session, which will become more noticeable with each subsequent treatment.
As well as significantly reduced pigmentation, wrinkles, and sagging, clients love the glow that Global Eyecon gives their skin.
How many treatments you require and whether you will need a top-up will depend on your skin and other factors mentioned above, such as sun exposure and genetic predispositions.
Consideration period
There is no requirement for reflection time, and the consultation can therefore be held in connection with your first treatment.
Written information
We recommend that you read about the treatment in our patient guide, which you can download here on this page.
Precautions
It is important that you do not show up for treatment with an outbreak of herpes.
You go to work the day after the treatment
Slight swelling can be seen for up to 2-4 days after the treatment. As a rule, you can go to work the day after the treatment itself, but we recommend making the treatment up to a weekend, as the slight swelling is visible in the first few days. It is not certain that others will notice, but you will be able to see it and probably prefer to be at home.
The skin will feel rough for approx. 4 days after treatment. You will probably experience an itchy sensation during the skin’s regeneration process in the days after the treatment.
After 5 days, the skin will be healed, but the skin may be delicately red for several weeks after the treatment. This means that the skin is working, and this is completely normal.
Dark discoloration of the epidermis will peel off.
Make-up can be used already the day after the treatment. However, it is not always that make-up will sit nicely on dry and peeling skin. Here you can advantageously use Mesoestetic Rapid Skin Repair cream which is specially made for use after laser treatments and peelings, where the skin may feel sensitive.
Use sunscreen SPF 50 every day.
It is important to use sunscreen every day after a treatment with FRAX. We recommend that you use a sunscreen with a high sun factor (SPF 50), as long as the skin is red and sensitive and when staying outdoors in the following months.
We highly recommend that you use Mesoestetics Melan130+ Pigment Control.
Generally speaking, we recommend that you use SPF 50 every day all year round to maintain the fine result and to prevent new damage to the skin.
You can use ordinary skin care products already the day after the treatment, as long as no scrubbing or abrasive agents, strong fruit acids and other exfoliants are used on the skin.
Medical skin care optimizes the treatment result
To increase the results of the laser treatment, we recommend that after 7 days you use high-potency medical creams daily.
Research shows that a combination of Retinol, antioxidants and sunscreen can further increase collagen production, while preventing pigment spots and new damage to the skin.
We recommend the following products:
Exfoliating Products:
- Obagi Nu-dermExfoderm (Normal hud)
- Mesoestetic Brightening Peel Booster
- Repairing Products:
- Mesoestetics HA Densimatrix
- Mesoestetics Skin Balance
- ZO Skin Health Radical Night Repair
- Antioxidants:
- Mesoestetics Aux Ferulic
- Obagi Medical C-Clarifying Serum FX
Sunscreen:
Mesoestetic Melan130+ Pigment Control
- Mesoestetic Mineral Antiaging Fluid SPF 50+
- Obagi Sun Shield Matte SPF 50
The treatment is suitable for men and women of all ages.
You must not have dark skin and you must not have been in the sun for 4 weeks prior to the treatment.
You must be over 18 years of age to be treated with laser, unless there is a medical indication for it.
